Oil pulling has been found to be especially effective at eliminating cavity-causing bacterium Streptococcus mutans, which is known to cause tooth decay and gum disease, according to this 2009 study<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How to\u00a0Oil Pull<\/h2>\n

Here\u2019s a quick step-by-step guide on how to oil pull:<\/p>\n

  1. Measure out a tablespoon of oil of your choice. We recommend sesame, sunflower, or coconut oil.<\/li>\n
  2. Pull the oil between the teeth for 15-20 minutes, 4-5 times a week. It may be convenient to swish while you\u2019re in the shower in the morning.<\/li>\n
  3. When the time is up, spit the oil into the trash, not<\/i> down the drain, as it could clog the pipes.<\/li>\n
  4. Rinse your mouth with warm water.<\/li>\n
