One of the biggest issues dentists have to overcome with patients is their fear of the pain associated with the anesthesia shots given before dental procedures. Nobody likes pain, of course, but unfortunately this fear can keep many people from visiting the dentist, even when they are experiencing tooth pain or other oral health issues. Solving this issue has been a mission of Dr. Wolnik’s, and is why he has begun using a device called “the Single Tooth Anesthesia” system, or STA. Our office in Parma Heights, Ohio, has emailed a newsletter about this system and it has already become one of our office’s most asked about techniques.
So what exactly is STA all about and how can it help you?
What is the Single Tooth Anesthesia System?
The STA uses a unique device that connects to a computer, which monitors the fluid pressure of the anesthetic. This enables us to regulate the delivery of anesthesia at a fluid-pressure equal to what it senses in the tooth, which eliminates both pain and the risk of delivering too much anesthesia. The STA system also allows us to direct anesthesia solely to the tooth being worked on, which reduces the numbing effect to the lips, tongue, and face that is so often seen with traditional anesthesia shots. Reduced numbing reduces post-operative discomfort and allows our patients to return to normal function must faster.
The Benefits of Single Tooth Anesthesia
The benefits of the STA system are numerous, which is why we are so excited to be able to offer it to our patients. Some of the highlights of the system include:
-
Innovation
The unit’s ability to numb a single tooth is something that has never before been possible using conventional techniques. This forward thinking innovation is a much-welcomed sign that technology is helping us move towards pain free dentistry.
-
Safety
The system’s patented computer-controlled drug delivery system makes anesthesia not only painless, but also safer. With this system, there are no risks that the patient will receive too much anesthetic.
-
Efficiency
Rather than blindly delivering anesthesia as conventional syringes do, the STA system removes the guesswork by providing dentists with real-time visual and audio feedback. The efficient flow of the anesthetic also results in more rapid onset and longer duration of the anesthesia.
-
Reduced Pain
Of course, the most exciting aspect of the STA system is that it cuts out the pain of anesthesia delivery. The controlled delivery also minimizes adverse tissue reactions by minimizing damage to the surrounding areas and removing the risk of lip, tongue, and facial damage.
Dr. Wolnik is excited to be one of the first dentists in the area offering this unique and innovative technique to dental patients. We are committed to bringing you the best oral health care with the least amount of pain possible!
